This Baoli (or stepped well) was built in 1354 by Firoze Shah Tughlaq, and was the only source of water for the British soldiers during the revolt of 1857. A few years ago while labourers were busy digging the foundations for a new block in the Hindu Rao Hospital compound they unearthed this structure, that had been written and talked about but had seemed to disappear. Incidentally this is one of the few Baolis in Delhi that continues to get a trickle of water from its subterranean sources
