The Iron Pillar was set up as a standard of God Vishnu in a hill known as Vishnupada, and built in the fourth century memory of Chandragupta II of the imperial Gupta Dynasty who ruled from 375- 413 A.D. It is built of corrosion free wrought iron, and is a metallurgical wonder of ancient India. Anganpal, the Tomar king brought it to it's current location somewhere in the 11th century
