Sher Shah Suri (the then emperor) constructed this gate in the 16th century. It has gained its name after three Mughal Dynasty princes were murdered here by British armyman William Hudson, following the Mughal king's surrender to the British on September 22, 1857. There are however other stories predating this that explain how the gate got its name
