Qila Rai Pithora is the first of the so called seven cities of Delhi. The Chauhans captured Delhi from the Tomars in the latter half of the 12th century and the third Chauhan king Prithviraja III (also called Rai Pithora) expanded the Tomar Qila Lal Kot by building massive ramparts around it. This enlarged city, with Lal Kot at it's SW base, was Qila Rai Pithora. Qutbu'd-'Din Aibak of the Slave dynasty captured it in 1192 and made it his capital
