This was the main palace in Shalimar Bagh, reputed to be the most magnificent of the gardens built by the Mughals in Delhi. It was commissioned in 1653 during Shah Jahan’s rule, and was the site of Aurangzeb’s coronation in 1658. The garden today is a small part of the original and the Sheesh Mahal has been ravaged by time (and probably neglect); I hope my photograph helps to visualise how magnificent it must have been in the centuries gone by
