Sher Mandal was built as an astronomical library and pleasure tower probably by the Mughal emperor Humayun sometime during his reign in 1530-1556 (interupted by Sher Shah Suri who ruled from 1540- 45); some historians however attribute it to Sher Shah. It is the highest point in the fort. It was also the spot where on 24 January 1556 Humayun fell from the second floor to his death
